Importing Data

You can upload your own datasets (CSV files) to visualise alongside census and electoral data.

Supported Formats

  • CSV files with a column containing geographic identifiers (postcodes, electorate names, SA1 codes, etc.)
  • At least one numeric column to map

Upload Process

  1. Go to Import/Export in the top navigation
  2. Click Upload CSV
  3. Step 1 — Upload: Select your file. The system previews the first few rows.
  4. Step 2 — Configure: Choose which column contains geographic identifiers and which column(s) contain data values. The system auto-detects likely matches.
  5. Step 3 — Review: Check the match rate (how many of your geographic identifiers matched known regions) and confirm.

Using Your Data

After import, your datasets appear in the My Data category of the dataset dropdown in the query panel. Use them exactly like any built-in dataset — select geography, regions, level, then your uploaded dataset.

Limitations

  • Geographic identifiers must match official ABS or AEC names/codes
  • Maximum file size: 10 MB
  • Numeric data only (no text-based choropleth)
